CFC-BMO Alliance
Helping Canadians use their charitable giving to build more vital communities is at the heart of a unique alliance between BMO Financial Group and Canada’s community foundations.
The alliance, the first of its kind in Canada, led to the creation of two programs that make it easy for BMO clients to create their own charitable fund at a participating community foundation:
- BMO Harris Private Banking’s Supporting Your Community
- BMO Nesbitt Burns’ Charitable Giving Program
Charitable funds from both programs can be named in honour of a loved one and set up to support causes recommended by the donor. The best part? The community foundation handles all the details and shares its front-line knowledge about needs and opportunities that match the donor’s personal goals.
Objectives
- Encourage philanthropy and increase giving to charities across Canada
- Help donors realize their philanthropic goals by providing easy access to expertise about community needs and organizations
- Link investment professionals and their clients with community causes that need their support
Impact
- Sparked new discussion of community needs and opportunities between BMO professionals, their clients and community foundations
- Established dozens of endowment funds ranging from $10,000 to $2 million to contribute to communities from coast to coast, year after year
- Planned gifts of more than $16 million set aside for the future of charitable organizations
