Vancouver Foundation adds publisher to Board

(June 18, 2010) Vancouver Foundation yesterday announced a significant addition to its Board of Directors. Kevin Bent, President and Publisher of Pacific Newspaper Group, will join 11 other directors to oversee the operations of Canada's largest community foundation.

Bent has the responsibility for BC's biggest daily newspapers, The Vancouver Sun and The Province (together these two newspapers have almost one million readers a day) as well as The Victoria Times Colonist.

He is also active on local boards and charities including: BC Children's Hospital Foundation; Sunny Hill Health Centre; BC Business Council; BC Achievement Foundation; and Streetohome. Bent is also a director of the Vancouver Board of Trade; a member of the Vancouver Board of Trade Women's Leadership Circle; and a trustee of the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.

"We very much look forward to working with Kevin" says Jake Kerr, Vancouver Foundation Board Chair. "He's a seasoned media executive, with more than 16 years experience in the industry. That experience, his work with charitable organizations, as well as Canwest's commitment to support communities where they do business, will greatly extend our work with communities across the province."

With more than 1,300 funds, and assets of $720 million, Vancouver Foundation is Canada's largest community foundation. Since it was founded in 1943, Vancouver Foundation, in partnership with its donors, has distributed more than $786 million to BC charities.
