1.) Collectif D’Animation Urbaine L’Autre Montréal

L’Autre Montréal is an educational group that has been offering guided bus tours of the city since the late 1970s. While conventional guided tours focus on famous people and well-known landmarks, L’Autre Montréal is primarily interested in the “other” Montreal: the city of working people and immigrants, labour unions and grass-roots organizing, factories and working-class housing. Incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1983, the group includes people with backgrounds in history, architecture, sociology, anthropology, political science and urban planning.

2.) Les Impatients

This is a place where those who struggle with mental health problems can express themselves through art therapy and develop links with the broader community. The organization offers 22 different workshops, in three different locations, in art therapy, music therapy and creative writing. This is an opportunity to visit Les Impatients’ art gallery and view its current exhibit, learn about the organization’s work and about the people who benefit from its workshops. Also, visitors will meet with an expert in the field of mental health who will present a wider portrait of Montreal’s community based resources in mental health.
