Burlington donor establishes fund

• It only took one meeting for Debbie Bishop to see the natural connection between one of her clients and the Burlington Community Foundation.

  The Bank of Montreal Financial Advisor attended a get-together organized by the community foundation soon after the launch of Supporting Your Community – the joint philanthropic program managed by BMO and Canada’s community foundations.

  “After our introductory session Debbie told me she had a client who wanted to put her affairs in order,” says Paul Wendling of the Burlington Community Foundation.

  The client was a strong supporter of a local charity and wanted that support to continue after she was gone. And she didn’t want her children to be burdened with financial questions in a period of grieving.

  Debbie and Paul met with the client and explained how community foundation endowment funds work. “The client was thrilled when she realized an endowment fund allowed her to achieve both goals at the same time – and relieved her of the administrative burden,” says Paul.

  “From start to finish the whole process only took a matter of weeks,” says Paul. “Our local relationship is off to a great start!”
